چکیده

Although spatio-temporal databases have received considerable attention recently, there has been little work on processing range sum queries on the historical records of moving objects despite their importance. Since the direct access to a huge amount of data to answer range sum queries incurs prohibitive computation cost, materialization techniques based on existing index structures are suggested. A simple but effective solution is to apply the materialization technique to the MVR-tree known as the most efficient structure for window queries with spatio-temporal conditions. Aggregate structures based on other index structures such as the HR-tree and the 3DR-tree do not provide satisfactory query performance. In this paper, we propose a new index structure called the Adaptively Partitioned Aggregate R-Tree (APART) and query processing algorithms to efficiently process range sum queries in many situations. Our experimental results show that the performance of the APART is typically 1.3 times better than that of its competitor for a wide range of scenarios. 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Querying Mobile Objects in Spatio-Temporal Databases

In dynamic spatio-temporal environments where objects may continuously move in space, maintaining consistent information about the location of objects and processing motion-specific queries is a challenging problem. In this paper, we focus on indexing and query processing techniques for mobile objects. Specifically, we develop a classification of different types of selection queries that arise ...

ST-Hadoop: A MapReduce Framework for Spatio-Temporal Data

This paper presents ST-Hadoop; the first full-fledged opensource MapReduce framework with a native support for spatio-temporal data. ST-Hadoop is a comprehensive extension to Hadoop and SpatialHadoop that injects spatio-temporal data awareness inside each of their layers, mainly, language, indexing, and operations layers. In the language layer, ST-Hadoop provides built in spatio-temporal data t...

Embedding advanced geometric techniques into SQL for efficient indexing of mobile objects

It is of great importance a trial to embed new geometric techniques into SQL in order to achieve more efficient indexing of objects moving on the plane and answer range queries about their future positions. This problem is motivated by real-life applications, such as allocating more bandwidth for areas where high concentration of mobile phones is imminent, or predicting future congestion areas ...

Complex Queries for Moving Object Databases in DHT-Based Systems

Distributed moving object database servers are a feasible solution to the scalability problem of centralized database systems. In this paper we propose a distributed indexing method, using the Distributed Hash Table (DHT) paradigm, devised to efficiently support complex spatio temporal queries. We assume a setting in which there is a large number of database servers that keep track of events as...

Scalable Continuous Query Processing and Moving Object Indexing in Spatio-temporal Databases

Spatio-temporal database systems aim to answer continuous spatio-temporal queries issued over moving objects. In many scenarios such as in a wide area, the number of outstanding queries and the number of moving objects are so large that a server fails to process queries promptly. In our work, we aim to develop scalable techniques for spatiotemporal database systems. We focus on two aspects of s...
